Old Town - The Corrs - Phil Lynott Remake

Listen From 1:29

Now Listen from 1:09

Interesting, I was under the impression from a video interview the gentleman playing came up with the music.

The Corrs did Phil Lynott a huge favor covering this song.

I really don't think the two sections you're comparing are that similar at all, except that both "solo's" are played with a piccolo trumpet (not sure about Penny Lane but Old Town definitely is).

And the piece from Old Town follows the piano music from the original demo of the song almost note for note (albeit at a quicker tempo) so not sure where you might have got that impression from.

I have a hard time comparing the two and there is a difference but sure sounds close. As for original I take you word for it. One note Philip Lynott is 27 sec long, both penny lane and old town are 16 and 17 sec long. I will listen some more.

Interesting find on that last video.

I didn't realize you were referring to PL when you mentioned the Gentleman.
I was zoned in on OT, my bad.

And yes, I agree that they do sound relatively close to one another but to me that's mostly because of the instrument.

Who knows though, Phil may have been listening to PL whilst he was writing OT and got a little inspired.

Considering his age I think so too.

During the 60s and 70s their were a few lawsuits over this very thing.
My guess MCcartney wouldn't care now.
