arrow COL Guidelines & Rules

The following are the guidelines we ask you to follow as a member of The Corrs Online Community forums. Please be considerate of these guidelines and try to follow them as best as you can; those members found abusing these rules will be reprimanded (including, but not limited to, being banned or removed). These are listed in a random order; all are of equal importance and should be followed equally. All guidelines are subject to change based on user interaction; please check back to see how these changes affect you.

General Rules
  • For security reasons, we ask that you not share your account password or other personal information with other users on the board. Doing so could lead to your account being hacked, your personal information being made public knowledge, and other users impersonating you. If you have problems with your account contact an administrator. If you have forgotten your password, please use the password reset option. Allowing others to use your account, or using someone else's account violates Section 1 of the Computer Misuse Act 1990 and could lead to up to six months imprisonment and/or up to a £5,000 fine.
  • You may register one account here. Anyone found registering more than one account faces being banned, and having the duplicate accounts removed.
  • Signatures (optional personal notes that automatically display beneath your posts) are subject to editing by board moderators for offencive/inappropriate language, to fix coding to comply with the board's structure, or to edit the size. Moderators may edit members sigs for violations without prior contact; infractions will be given for any violation. A seperate topic on signature rules will be added later & linked here.
  • Respect fellow members at The Corrs Online. Everyone is entitled to post, discuss, have opinions, and the like here. Remember to post opinions in a constructive manner, not abusive.
Posting/Private Messaging Rules
  • Please post threads in proper forums. Posting in incorrect forums leads to confusion amongst other members and will be moved. All forums are aptly titled and described to help cut down on confusion.
  • Multiple threads on the same topic are not allowed as they clutter forums and confuse members. Duplicate threads will be deleted.
  • The use of DiStOrTeD TeXt, abbreviated text (examples include 'how r u' and 'i luv u 2') and POSTING IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS is not acceptable at COL and members posting such will be contacted by Staff. Not all members have English as a first language and distortion/kewl talk may be confusing.
  • Advertising Websites. Members are welcome to advertise their own websites (personal, corrs-related and non-corrs) in their signatures and profiles. Members are also allowed to link to other Corrs sites when required. Links to sites where you can acquire illegal material is not allowed.
  • Posting of Defamatory information. Posting of defamatory information is not allowed. Trying to damage the reputation, character, or good name of someone or thing by slander or libel is against the law and such discussion should not take place here. This follows in-line with our policy of respecting others.
  • PM Spam. PM "Spam" is not tolerated at any time by any member. This includes (but is not limited to) website advertising, harassment, staff solicitation, and the like via PM.
  • Copyrighted Material. Posting of copyrighted material, along with discussions of how-to obtain Corrs stuff (in a non-legal manner, i.e. anything other than purchasing CDs or DVD/VHS) or other articles via non-legal methods is not allowed. Such acts violate the Copyright, Designs & Patents Act 1988 in the United Kingdom and the Digital Millennium Copyright Act 1998 in the United States and the Berne Convention in the UK, US and the majority of other countries. However, we do allow posting of materials previously available on TV etc for your own personal use. Sharing of media available to PURCHASE is forbidden and will result in user infractions.
Please enjoy posting at The Corrs Online Forums. Following these guidelines will help the boards run smoothly and create a more enjoyable environment for everyone. Thank you!

Spam Guide.
What is spam? Well, any post that is unnecessary, irrelevant, or is posted to bump or boost post counts are considered spam. Also, posts that make the page hard to load are considered spam. These type of posts are listed below.
  • Irrelevant posts - Posts that do not serve a purpose or are not related to the thread topic are considered spam. Examples of these types of posts would be posting only a "smilie" or "yeah"
  • Posting to boost post count - Posts that serve no purpose whatsoever and are posted solely to boost thread/post count are considered spam. These type of posts are generally one-word posts and are usually unnecessary.
  • Shoutbox Spam - posting for the sake of it in the shoutbox. More than three consecutive posts by a regular in here is considered spam and will result in an infraction. Moderators often use the shoutbox as a place for forum announcements - if shout box posts include a forum announcement by a moderator, it is not considered spam.
  • Signature Spam - Extremely large signatures that take a long time to load are considered spam - they clog up the threads and make scrolling harder. While signatures are a nice feature, they are a privilege and we shouldn't take advantage of that. Large or many animations make the pages of the boards impossible to load, therefore the topic doesn't get read by as many people. Please see the sig rules and stick to them. Failure to do so will get you an infraction.
  • Bumps - Bumps are posts that are posted specifically so a thread will move to the top of the page. If a post needs a bump, then it could use relevant information. If no one wants to post in that thread, then there's a reason it's at the bottom of the page. Bumps will be deleted.
  • Attachments, Banners, Etc. - Posts that have a lot of attachments or unnecessary attachments are spam and are not looked highly upon. These posts include posting the same pictures that have been posted several times before (or even once before), or posting pictures/banners in the wrong forums.
  • Duplicate Threads - We want to keep this Board as easy to read and navigate through as possible. Multiple threads that are duplicates makes things messy and can be confusing. It's also hard for the original thread starter to keep up with the replies when they have to search a bunch of different threads. The one exception to duplicate threads if for Fan Fiction, where each fiction has the "story" thread and the comments thread as this makes it easier for people to read the fiction without having to scroll past all the comments.
  • Thanks - the "thanks" option is a priviledge and should not be abused. Any members found abusing this feature (ie, thanking people for the sake of it, not for actually doing anything worth being thanked for) will have an infraction against them.
  • Thread Hijacking - this is when some people decide to have their own private chat within a thread, taking the thread off the original topic. Do everyone a favour, take it to your IM of choice or to the pointless topic. An example of THJ:
Quote:
COL Member: Hey, this new Andrea pic is great, any more?
Hayley: Check the Andrea pics topic, there's some there.
Lisa: Yeah, and there's pics of her wearing that gorgeous red mini-dress.
Hayley: What dress?
Lisa: You know, the one similar to the one I bought the other week.
Only mine was blue and a bit longer.
Hayley: Oh, yeah, I know the one. Where did you get it from?
Lisa: I got it from ebay.
Hayley: Oh, I love ebay.
Lisa: Yeah, me too. Found some great shoes on there too. Cheap too!
Hayley: Yeah? Bargain!
Everyone on COL:
Remember:

Always try to check before you post. Am I in the right forum? Has this topic been posted before? Is my post relevant to the topic? Do I really need to add this picture? If you posted in the wrong forum, and realise this just after you posted, you can either edit your post (click on the "edit post" button to do so, located on the bottom right of your post, right after Quote), PM one of the admins/moderators and ask for it to be moved or you can post again in your topic and ask for it to be moved.

For further help, please see the COL Dictionary.
